Louis Marchesi Fellow (LMF) is an honorary recognition conferred by the Fondation Round Table Inde (RTIF) upon individuals or organisations that make a qualifying contribution to the Louis Marchesi Fellow Fund. Named after Round Table founder Louis Marchesi, the programme was established to strengthen the Foundation’s financial resources and support community service projects undertaken by Round Table Inde and its affiliated organisations.
Although many recipients are current or former Tablers, the honour is not limited to members. It may also be bestowed upon family members, guests, companies, or other organisations, either in recognition of their own contribution or as a tribute made in their honour or memory.
Origin and History
The Louis Marchesi Fellow scheme was introduced by the Round Table Foundation in 1987 with the objective of increasing the Foundation’s permanent corpus, thereby enabling it to provide more grants to deserving community service projects. The initiative was named after Louis Marchesi (1898–1968), the founder of the worldwide Round Table movement, whose vision of fellowship and service continues to inspire Tablers around the world.
Under the original scheme, a contribution of ₹5,000 to the Louis Marchesi Fellow Fund entitled the donor—or the individual in whose honour or memory the donation was made—to receive the title of Louis Marchesi Fellow, together with a commemorative silver medallion and certificate. Over time, the qualifying contribution has increased to reflect changing economic conditions, while the purpose of the scheme has remained unchanged: to build a sustainable source of funding for community service.
Today, the programme continues to be administered by the Round Table India Foundation and has expanded to include higher levels of recognition, including Golden Louis Marchesi Fellow (GLMF) et Platinum Louis Marchesi Fellow (PLMF), recognising increasingly significant contributions to the Foundation’s charitable mission.
Insignia and Medallion
Recipients of the Louis Marchesi Fellow (LMF) honour are presented with a commemorative medallion and an accompanying certificate as a permanent recognition of their contribution to the Round Table India Foundation.
The LMF medallion is traditionally struck in silver and features a portrait of Louis Marchesi, founder of the Round Table movement, symbolising the values of fellowship, service, and leadership upon which the organisation was established. It is commonly worn on formal Round Table occasions and Foundation events, serving as a visible acknowledgement of the recipient’s support for charitable causes.
As the programme expanded, additional grades of recognition—including Golden Louis Marchesi Fellow (GLMF) et Platinum Louis Marchesi Fellow (PLMF)—were introduced. These higher distinctions are accompanied by their own respective medallions, reflecting the recipient’s level of contribution while maintaining the same underlying symbolism and purpose.
Over the years, minor variations in the design and manufacture of the medallions have been produced, although the central imagery and association with Louis Marchesi have remained consistent.
