The Fox Hunt is a regularly organized social and charity event held in New York City, hosted by RT USA 1 New York City. Blending urban exploration, socializing, and charitable giving, the Foxhunt Pubcrawl is a unique twist on the traditional pub crawl format or scavenger hunt, themed around a city-wide “hunt” for a hidden “fox.”

Concept and Format

The Fox

The Fox

The event is structured as an urban game. One member of RTUS1, designated as the “fox,” disguises himself and hides in a bar somewhere within the city. He would also remotely control the game.

The other participants form small groups known as hunting teams whose objective is to locate the fox by solving clues and completing tasks throughout the event.

The potential location of the fox is revealed to each team once all the tasks have been satisfactorily completed. The first team to find the fox, wins.

The Hunt

The hunt begins with each team receiving a carefully prepared list of bars and landmarks spread across different neighborhoods of New York City. This list offers a mix of well-known locations and more hidden spots, encouraging teams to explore the city in a dynamic and engaging way. From this selection, teams are required to visit a minimum number of locations within a set time.

Proud hunters

At every stop, the team must complete a few basic steps. First, they have to enjoy a drink together, reinforcing the social aspect of the event. Then, they take a group photo as proof of their presence at the location. This photo is immediately sent to the fox via WhatsApp, allowing the organizers to track progress in real time.

Once the fox verifies the location, the team receives a specific task that must be completed before they can continue. These tasks are designed to be interactive, entertaining, and sometimes a bit challenging, often involving other people at the venue. For example, teams may be asked to take a photo with the bartender, perform a group toast in front of the crowd, sing a song together, or engage in a spontaneous activity that brings attention and creates memorable moments.

As the hunt continues, teams collect points by successfully visiting locations and completing tasks. Strategy also plays a role, as teams must decide how to plan their route and manage their time effectively. Only those teams that complete a required number of tasks and visits qualify for the next phase of the foxhunt, where the competition becomes even more exciting.

The Final Hunt

After reaching the threshold of completed tasks, teams are given a shortlist of final bars – one of which contains the hidden fox. The race to locate the fox becomes a fast-paced final round, with teams scrambling across the city to be the first to find the fox.

Winning and Charity

The first team to find the fox is declared the winner of the Foxhunt Pubcrawl. A prize pool – typically collected from entry fees – is awarded, with the winning team receiving part of the prize and the rest being donated to a social project or charitable cause selected by Round Table 1 New York City.

Communication and Community

All coordination during the event is managed via WhatsApp, allowing for live updates, task instructions, and real-time interaction between the fox and the hunting teams. The event promotes not only fun and friendly competition but also fosters teamwork. It also gains visibility in the area as it does via social Media of the Club, the hunters and the participating bars.

Paris 2026

At the end of March 2026, a special foxhunt took place in Paris as part of the RT1 Paris 75th anniversary celebration. The event brought together international hunters from more than 10 countries, creating a lively and diverse atmosphere. In a playful way, the French participants liked to call the activity a “föx hönt.”

For this anniversary edition, the rules of the foxhunt were slightly changed. The goal was not only to follow the hunt, but also to give participants a better experience of the city of Paris. Instead of having just a classic pub crawl style event, the organizers designed seven different tours that the teams could choose from.

Each tour offered a unique way to discover the city. Two of them focused on pub routes, while others included shopping experiences or sightseeing walks through different quarters of Paris. This allowed participants to explore famous areas as well as hidden corners, depending on their interests.

Around 60 people took part in the g clothes. Outfits ranged from traditional hunter jackets to funny and creative costumes such as an “Duck Pajamas” which added humor and color to the event.

At the end of the day, one team was declared the winner. However, in a generous gesture, the winning team decided to reject the prize money. Instead, they asked for the amount to be added to a donation. RT1 Paris had selected the “XYZ Organization,” and together with the prize money, a total of “XYZ” could be donated to support “XYZ.”
