FunTa Cula (RTDE)

FunTa Cula is a collaborative event organized by Round Table Germany and Ladies’ Circle clubs in Germany. The name “FunTa Cula” is a blend of “Funta,” referring to the Round Table’s “Funktionärstagung” (functionaries’ meeting), and “CuLa,” denoting the Ladies’ Circle’s “Club-Ladies.” This event exemplifies the “Side by Side” motto, emphasizing the close cooperation between these two organizations.

The event attracts hundreds of participants from Germany and around the world and typically features a diverse program of workshops on Saturday, along with social activities and networking opportunities for members. The meetings and workshops are designed to be both relaxed and informative. These gatherings provide a platform for members to exchange ideas, strengthen bonds, and collaborate on service projects, reflecting the shared commitment of Round Table and Ladies’ Circle to community service and international friendship.

The themed party is seen as a highlight for many of the attendees. Past themes have included: Nautical, Hawaii, Superheroes

Origin of the event

2008 was the 3rd “Presidents’ Meeting” in Erfurt, with the “legendary Funta 12 Party”
Mentioned by name: Heiko Hilscher as organizer of the 3 meetings, and Jörg Lichtenegger as RTDE President. Actually still known as Fanta-Cola

The whole thing started as a vice meeting, with the “legendary Funta Party” at the end and therefore the workshops on Saturday afternoon are actually the absolute centerpiece.

Took place at the same place 2 years in a row (what stress for the organizer). Initial events had a maximum of 200 attendees.

Origin of the name

Sometimes the event is referred to as “funtacula” or mistakenly as “fantacula”. The name is a combination of two words.

FunTa

Actually an abreviation of “Funktionärstagung” (functionaries’ meeting), the popular explanation is that it combines the words: Fun & Tabling

The organizers expected the name to be phonetically read the same as “Fanta” but this pronunciation never caught beyond German speaking Tablers. Thus this sometimes accompanied with the Fanta logo.

CuLa

A shortening of Ladies’ Circle’s “Club-Ladies”, it is phonetically close to “Cola”, a beverage similar to Fanta).

Initially the full name of the event included the number of districts (eg. FUNTA 12 & CuLa 7).
