History of RT Romania (RTRO)

2000

A new generation of tablers took over the leadership of the Romanian RT Association. Ovidiu Dumitru and Leon Popovici attended EMATM in Paphos, Cyprus, and Cornel Covașa attended the IRO’s Meeting in Malta. A twinning was established between RT 4 Suceava and RT 174 Hossegor-Cap Breton, France.

Radu Bucur’s visits to RT 6 Washington and RT 5 Chicago in the USA paved the way for new transatlantic contacts. Romanian tablers participated in large numbers at Euro RT 6 in Brașov, Romania, Euro RT 8 in Liverpool, England, Euro RT 11 in Stourbridge — Brierley Hill, RTBI, and Euro RT 12 in Brussels, Belgium.

After three years without founding a new RT club in Romania, two new clubs were chartered: RT 14 Cluj-Napoca (by RT 1 Brașov and RT 14 Chur, Switzerland) and RT 15 Slatina (by RT 8 Craiova and RT 15 Burgdorf, Switzerland).

In autumn, the second RT Romania area was founded (2nd Area — Oltenia). RT 6 Brașov, together with the 2nd Area of RT Italy, continued the program supporting the Codlea Orphanage.

2001

Dan Filipescu and Dorel Covașa attended SEM in Luxembourg, and Dan Filipescu participated in EMATM in Hemming, Denmark, in June, playing an important role in promoting RT Romania internationally. Romanian tablers participated in multiple international events, including Euro RT 1 in Lausanne, Switzerland; Euro RT 4 in Luxembourg; Euro RT 6 in Pärnu, Estonia; Euro RT 8 in Nicosia, Cyprus; Euro RT 11 in Lorient, France; Euro RT 12 in Lucerne, Switzerland; and Euro RT 15 in Wuppertal, Germany.

After 10 years, Dorel Covașa represented Romania at AGM RTI and the WOCO Conference in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Special contacts were made through Radu Bucur’s visit to RT 64 Woking, England, and tablers’ participation in meetings at RT 9 Mass Tour, Germany (Toma Lazăr, Adrian Verde, Dan Matei, Adrian Tîrlescu).

2002

By the end of spring, a large delegation participated in AGM France in Laval, including Ruslan Oprescu, Dorin Sandu, Adrian Nițulescu, Cristian Săndulescu, Victor Vasile, Leo Brăndușoiu, Ilie Silviu, Paul Darac, Octavian Bunică, Victor Coneschi, Sorin Ilea, Constantin Facăleț Ghinea, and Marius Fluturaș. Two days before, the 2nd Area Oltenia fraternized with the 2nd Area Bretagne, France.

Gheorghe Farkaș attended AGM Hungary at Lake Balaton. Romanian tablers also participated in Euro RT 1 in Reykjavik, Iceland; Euro RT 6 in Limassol, Cyprus; Euro RT 8 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa; Euro RT 11 in Vevey, Switzerland; and Euro RT 12 in Rimini, Italy.

In June, at EMATM in Verona, Italy, Cristian Săndulescu continued promoting Romanian RT internationally.

2003

In the spring, Daniel Irina represented RT Romania at two AGMs of neighboring countries: AGM Bulgaria in Plovdiv and AGM Hungary at Lake Balaton. Cristian Săndulescu met RTBI tablers in Bucharest and later attended AGM Belgium in Ghent.

Horia Ologu-Guja participated in EMATM in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Euro RT 12 was held in Galați, Romania. In July, RT Romania administered a project transporting school materials from RT 549 Banbridge, Ireland, to modernize several Romanian colleges in Craiova, Brașov, Slatina, and Drobeta Turnu Severin.

In November, Dorin Ilian Sandu represented RT Romania at the IRO’s Meeting in Gibraltar, continuing Romania’s international participation.

2004

In March, Dan Nicolau participated in SEM, held by TR 149 Les Sables d’Olonne, France.

In early May, in the “seven hills city” of Rome, a twinning event took place between RTRO 8 Craiova and RTIT 2 Rome, Italy.

Adrian Morar represented RT Romania at AGM Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Romanian tablers were also present at several international meetings, including:

    • Euro RT 1 in Malta
    • Euro RT 6 in Versailles, France (30th anniversary)
    • Euro RT 12 in Emden Leer, Germany

In September, RT Romania participated in its most important international meeting so far: the Ladies Circle International Conference in Bucharest, which hosted over 300 attendees from service clubs worldwide. Romanian tablers attending included Bogdan Manea, Ruslan Oprescu, and Ovidiu Ungureanu.

In October, RT Romania participated in the Danube Tablers Meeting in Budapest, Hungary, for the first time, represented by Bogdan Manea and Camillo Popescu.

In November, Cristian Iacob represented RT Romania at the IRO’s Meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland.
