History of RT Romania (RTRO)

2005

EuroOne — EURO RT 1 was hosted in Brașov, Romania.

The first National Football Championship in RT Romania’s history took place, organized by RT 9 Câmpulung Muscel.

During the summer, at EMATM in Tallinn, Estonia, RT Romania’s representative, Dan Nicolau, clarified financial aspects and strengthened the club’s position in the European area.

In September, Camillo Popescu and Dumitru Popescu participated in the Danube Tablers Meeting in Ingolstadt, Germany, successfully securing Galați, Romania, as the host city for the following year’s event.

In November, at the World IRO’s Meeting in Athens, Greece, Victor Coneschi (National IRO) and two Romanian tablers—Dorin Sandu (National Vice President) and Cristian Buzatu (National Secretary)—achieved an outstanding result for RT Romania: securing Romania as the host country for the 2007 World IRO’s Meeting.

At the National Committee meetings in Craiova, Suceava, and Slatina, significant changes were proposed for RT Romania’s structure, which were later voted on and approved at the AGM in Galați.

2006

This year was marked by challenges, as several Round Table Romania clubs were closed.

However, RT Romania remained active internationally, participating in Euromeetings, EMA Malta, and the IRO’s Meeting in San Marino. Efforts were also made to reestablish a Round Table club in the capital, Bucharest.

In September, an international event was held in Galați: the Danube Tablers Meeting, which saw strong national and international attendance.

Another key achievement was the growing interest and involvement of local clubs in social projects to benefit their communities.

2007

This year saw a significant increase in RT Romania’s participation in international events, including RTI AGM Cyprus, Euromeetings, and the Danube Tablers Meeting.

A major milestone was the rechartering of Round Table 10 in Bucharest in May, thanks to the initiative and dedication of former tablers who had settled in the capital.

However, the most significant event of the year was the successful hosting of the World IRO’s Meeting, held in Brașov from November 15–17. The event was attended by delegates from 19 countries, including the EMA Chairman, RTI Vice-Chairman, and IRO ARTSA representatives.

This was the most prestigious Round Table International event ever hosted in Romania. No AGM was held this year, as the event schedule was adjusted to align better with the international calendar.

2008

A major decision was made this year: the age limit for members was officially set at 45 after intense debate.

RT Romania was highly represented at international events, including:

  • EMA Sweden
  • RTI AGM Thailand
  • IRO’s Meeting Netherlands

Participation in Euromeetings had by now become a tradition for Romanian clubs.

Additionally, efforts began to establish national-level social projects, moving beyond local club initiatives. These projects would be further developed in the coming years.

2009

This was a year of consolidation for RT Romania.

The most notable event was the reactivation of Round Table 11 in Brașov, which was officially chartered in November during the National Committee Meeting. However, the year was also marked by the closing of RT 7 Oradea.

Interest in tabling grew in new areas, with groups forming in Sibiu and Cluj-Napoca.

Recognizing the need for expansion, RT Romania initiated active measures to grow membership and develop new clubs.

International participation remained strong, with notable appearances at:

    • EMATM 2009 in Suriname
    • RTIWM 2009 in Altmar, Netherlands
    • IRO’s Meeting 2009 in Israel
