History of RT Romania (RTRO)

2010

RT Romania celebrated 20 years since the chartering of its first club, RT 1 Brașov.

The anniversary event took place in Brașov and was attended by founding members, Club 41 representatives, and international guests. The celebration was part of the National Committee Meeting from September 30 to October 3.

Additionally, preparations began for hosting EMATM 2011 in Brașov. Romanian tablers strengthened international connections by attending numerous events, culminating in a seven-person delegation at EMATM 2010 in Italy.

Within the association, 2010 was a year of consolidation and integration, particularly in welcoming a significant number of new members.

However, heated debates took place regarding:

    • Transitioning the RT Romania discussion group from Yahoo.com to the national site forum (www.roundtable.ro)
    • Strategies for developing and strengthening RT Romania

Another issue that arose was a decline in membership in certain local clubs, which was discussed at National Committee and AGM meetings and was considered a priority by the National Board.

2011

EMATM 2011 was successfully hosted in Brașov, making it the second most important Round Table International event in Romania.

The event was attended by 180 tablers from 24 countries, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback confirmed Romania’s ability to organize world-class events.

Dragoș Chiriță was honored as “Tabler of the Year” at the RTI Meeting in Bremerhaven, Germany, recognizing his significant contributions at an international level.

Another highlight was the rechartering of RT 5 Săcele and the reactivation of RT 4 Suceava, which was later selected to host the November National Committee Meeting.

2012

AGM 2012 was held in Galați, organized by RT 12. The event was attended by RTI President Stijn De Frene.

RT 6 Brașov organized the September National Committee Meeting, where RT 13 Galați was chartered by RT 1, RT 5, and RT 11. The event also celebrated RT 6’s 20th anniversary.

RT Romania remained active in international events, with members attending:

    • EMATM in Brussels (Vlad Ștefan, Sorin Petcu)
    • Various RTI meetings (Dragoș Chiriță)
    • AGM France (Ștefan Vlad)

RT 12 hosted Euromeeting 12 in Galați, while RT 10 Bucharest organized Euromeeting 10.

Additionally, RT 6 participated in Euromeeting 6 in Limassol, Cyprus.

RT Romania continued its Christmas Presents social project, supported by RT 10 and German RT clubs. RT 13 organized a Christmas Charity event in Galați. However, RT 9 Câmpulung Muscel ceased operations.

2013

This was the year when the new RT Romania badge was adopted.

International participation was overwhelming, with National Board members attending almost all major RTI events.

Key participations included:

  • RTI World Meeting in Valence, France (Ionuț Gliga, Dragoș Chiriță, Ilian Sandu)
  • IRO’s Meeting in Iceland and EMATM in Plovdiv, Bulgaria (Dragoș Chiriță, Sorin Avram, Ștefan Vlad)
  • AGM Malta, AGM Israel, AGM France, CTM — Stirling, and EuropeOne Meeting — Luxembourg (National IRO)
  • AGM RT Italia and STM in Riva del Garda, Italy (Ilian Sandu)

In June, a delegation attended Euromeeting 12 in Reykjavik, Iceland (Ionuț Jercan, Dan Nicolau, Mihai Bălan, Lucian Gheorghe).

RT Romania also had a strong presence at the Danube Tablers Meeting in Regensburg, Germany, attended by tablers from RT 2, RT 12, and RT 13.

RT 13 also participated in the National Sporting Weekend in England.

The 2013 National AGM was hosted in Brașov by RT 11, with RTI Secretary Mark Nichols in attendance.

2014

In March, RT Romania’s National Board meeting was combined with the chartering of RT 16 Bucharest, organized by RT 12 Galați. The event coincided with C41 Romania’s 20th anniversary celebration.

The AGM of RT Romania was organized in Mamaia by RT 10 Bucharest, in collaboration with LC Romania. This location was chosen to help establish a new local club in Constanța.

RT Romania was again well represented at international events, attending almost all major RTI and European regional events.

Notable participations:

    • CTM in Eger, Hungary (Sorin Avram, Ștefan Vlad, Dragoș Chiriță)
    • IRO’s Meeting in Kaunas, Lithuania (Ștefan Vlad, Dragoș Chiriță)
    • AGM Sweden in Landskrona, AGM Tunisia, and AGM Malta
    • EMATM in Hoorn, Netherlands, where Romania had a large delegation (Ștefan Vlad, Sorin Avram, Dragoș Chiriță, George Tronaru, Sorin Lumină)

In August 2014, RT Romania mourned the passing of Mihai Gyapjas, a former president and a key figure in RT Romania’s history.

RT Romania also continued major social projects, including:

    • The Christmas Convoy, organized with RT Germany and RT Austria, benefiting underprivileged children.
    • Christmas gift campaigns led by RT 13, with support from Orange Romania.
    • RT 1’s “Joy in a Box” project.

A new initiative was launched: the first edition of Rocket Fuel pins, the first step in creating an international RT Romania brand. Plans were also made to introduce mini bottles of Romanian pălincă featuring the Rocket Fuel Pin.

The year ended with two National Committee Meetings:

    • October, hosted by RT 16 in the Danube Delta under the “National Fishing Weekend” brand.
    • November, hosted by RT 1 Brașov.

Once again, the Christmas Convoy saw strong participation from RT Romania clubs, with active involvement from Drobeta Turnu Severin, Bucharest, Brașov, Suceava, and Galați.
