Honour: Honorary Member of Round Table Belgium
Jacques Moiny was one of the most influential early Tablers in Belgium, remembered not for official presidencies, but for his vast behind-the-scenes contributions in editorial, international, and administrative leadership. A member of RT Mons 6, he helped build Round Table Belgium’s identity across national borders.
He is especially remembered for his service to RTI and WOCO through multiple editorial and financial roles, and for being the first IRO of Round Table Belgium. The RTI collar still in use today includes the original insignia lent by Jacques in 1991.
“La Table Ronde est un acte de foi dans les hommes.”
“Round Table is an act of faith in mankind – every member enters with that same belief.”
— Jacques Moiny (written to Claude Joseph for the RTBE 50 Charter)

🕊️ Legacy
Moiny’s contributions were not defined by holding top titles, but by his consistent service, intellect, and international vision. As one former president wrote, “He preferred creation over leadership, and conviction over prestige.” His Secretary & editorial work in Belgium, RTI editor & treasurer, and first RTBE IRO’s function shaped RTB’s global voice back in the days.
Editorial Legacy
- 🗞️ He named and shaped the official Belgian RT bulletin Sceptre, giving it a defined identity and mission.
- 🌍 He single-handedly founded and edited Look Over Round Table World, the RTI global magazine, during its formative years.
Moiny’s commitment didn’t end there. His national and international roles often overlapped — a clear sign of his tireless dedication. As the tribute text reads:
“Les mandats nationaux et internationaux ne se succèdent pas seulement, la plupart du temps, ils se cumulent. L’infatigable défenseur et animateur de la prestigieuse Round Table International, dont il regrettera le suicide pour que vive le WOCO, est en même temps, dans sa table de Mons et au Comité National, l’inestimable autant que modeste collaborateur et innovateur.”
This quote sums him up best: an “inestimable and modest collaborator and innovator.” While others held the spotlight, Jacques Moiny built the structures, wrote the words, and opened the doors for Round Table Belgium to become truly international.
🔱 The RTI Presidential Insignia.
In 1991, David Van Riel and André Verbrugghe located Jacques Moiny, who still had his original RTI insignia in perfect condition. He generously lent it to be reproduced. The original chain was mistakenly affixed to the RTI collar, where it remains today — travelling the world with every RTI President.
“A heartfelt tribute to Jacques, who had been deeply saddened to see RTI vanish and turn into WOCO.”
