The Association

History

The first Dutch Table was founded in Utrecht on June 7, 1946, by Henk Bruna, who discovered Round Table during a work placement in Reading, England in 1935. Upon returning to the Netherlands he wanted to found Round Table The Netherlands, but the outbreak of World War 2 delayed his efforts. When Round Table finally took root in the Netherlands, it quickly gained momentum, expanding into a nationwide network with over 200 Tables and thousands of members.

Districts and Tables

Within the Netherlands, there is a total of 14 Districts, each representing between 8 and 18 Tables each. They are stylistically numbered with Roman Numerals. The Association has a 15th District, called District C, which includes 2 Tables located in the Dutch Caribbean.

National President & Motto

Every year the National President chooses a motto wich will be the central theme that year. In 2025 RTNL President Bastiaan van Zanten chooses “Take The Leap” — A year of growth and courage.

Life is full of moments where you need to jump. Not because you know exactly where you’ll land, but because you trust that you’ll grow along the way. “Take The Leap” is about those jumps – big or small – that shape you and move you forward.
Those who wait for the perfect moment often watch it pass them by. So don’t wait any longer: start today, take that step, make that leap. Take The Leap! — Bastiaan van Zanten, RTNL President 2025/2026

Orphan Fund

As Round Table The Netherlands, we want to show the family that their father was a remarkable person who was a member of a remarkable club.

The Orphan Fund (Wezenfonds🔗) can provide a joint financial gift to the widow and children upon the death of a Tabler who is a member of the Round Table The Netherlands. The foundation collects gifts from Tablers after a call to the secretary of all Dutch Tables.

Orphan fund/Wezenfonds

With service as an important philosophy within the Dutch Round Table, we as Tablers also support our fellow Tabler and their families when necessary. Within the orphan fund, we want to ensure financial support for the immediate family upon the death of a Tablers, together with all Round Tables

The financial contribution is intended for the education and/or development of the orphans. The funds can also be used for the funeral or cremation. In this way, the family can fully focus on the loss of their loved one without worrying about their finances during this period of mourning.

Aid Fund

The Aid Fund assists Tablers and former Tablers in difficult times.

The Netherlands has a fairly extensive social system. However, there is sometimes a need for financial support, if only because social legislation only provides for a minimum subsistence level. Tablers, former Tablers, and family members or widows of (former) Tablers of Round Table The Netherlands can turn to the Aid Fund (Hulpfonds🔗) in difficult times.

Aid fund/Hulpfonds

The Aid Fund can provide assistance in various ways, for example:

    • Advice on personal financial problems
    • Financial support for the purchase of (medical) aids that are not reimbursed
    • Financial support for special medical treatments
    • Bridging financial need for the widow after the death of a (former) Tabler

The contributions have a maximum limit and are only granted to private individuals, never to companies. It concerns a loan that must be repaid as soon as it is financially possible.
