Round Table 195 Taxandria is a cross-border Table based in the town of Baarle, located on the unique and complex border between the Netherlands and Belgium. Initially chartered as (and still officially called) RT 195 Baarle-Hertog-Nassau in 2005, the Table later informally adopted the name Taxandria, reflecting the historical name of the surrounding region and marking the next chapter in its development.

RTNL 195 Taxandria is part of Round Table Netherlands and holds honorary status in Round Table Belgium, highlighting its binational identity. The membership includes Tablers from both Dutch and Belgian backgrounds, making it a prime example of a truly cross-border Table in the international Tabling community.

The Town of Baarle

Baarle is world-famous for its complex network of 30 enclaves — a patchwork of Dutch Baarle-Nassau and Belgian Baarle-Hertog territories. These enclaves are interspersed throughout the village like a jigsaw puzzle, with borders running through streets, parks, and even private homes.

The “voordeurregel” (front door rule) determines the nationality of a building based on the location of its entrance. This unusual arrangement traces its roots to medieval land divisions between the Duke of Brabant and the House of Nassau, with the modern borders officially confirmed in 1995.

The Table’s original logo symbolized this unique geography, and its current pin includes the flags of both Belgium and the Netherlands, reflecting the Table’s dual-national character and the spirit of fellowship that bridges borders.

Hospitality

The cross-border nature of the club is reflected in the warm hospitality of its members. RT 195 Taxandria has welcomed visiting Tablers attending both Dutch and Belgian meetings. Local tours often include highlights such as the Baarle Cultural Centre, a binational bank, and a police station divided by the border, along with many other quirky features unique to the enclave-filled village.

Visitors are also encouraged to ask about the local traditions involving Schrobbelèr, a beloved regional herbal liqueur with its own place in the club’s social customs.
