Following the devastating earthquake in the night of the 6th of April 2009, which caused 309 deaths, over 1600 injuries, over 80.000 people displaced and damages to the excess of 10 billion Euros, the local table RTIT 26 L’Aquila together with Round Table Italia, Round Table International, the other clubs of the Round Table Family and other, around 180, benefactors financed the construction of a multifunctional centre to give a new home to the voluntary associations of the city.
Construction began in August 2010 and the inauguration took place on the 16th of July 2011. In over 1.000 square meters, the centre houses a meeting room, that seats 96 people, various smaller meeting rooms, and a dormitory with 15 beds. In the first two years over 180 different associations have used the facilities, with an average of 4.000 people using the facilities per month. This certifies the importance of this social centre after the devastation of the earthquake.
