Ready for an Official Role

Every Table is only as strong as the members who step forward to lead it. Round Table thrives because ordinary young men are willing to take on responsibility, learn new skills, and grow through service.

Taking on an official role – whether as Secretary, Treasurer, Convener, or Chairman – is not about titles. It is about trust. Your Table trusts you to guide it, to bring energy, and to carry forward our values of Adopt, Adapt, Improve.

For a new member, stepping up might feel daunting. But every great Tabler once sat where you are now – unsure, yet willing to try. With the support of your fellow Tablers, you’ll quickly discover that holding a role is not a burden, but a chance to:

    • Build confidence in speaking, organising, and decision-making.
    • Strengthen friendships through teamwork and shared responsibility.
    • Make an impact by shaping the future of your Table and community.

Leadership in Round Table is not reserved for the experienced – it is forged by those ready to grow. If you’re wondering whether you are “ready” – the answer is simple: say yes. Your Table, and your own journey, will be better for it.

Where to Start

    • Read: Explore the Tabler.Wiki articles, RT University, and blogs on specific roles (Secretary, Treasurer, PRO, etc.) to understand what each position involves.
    • Ask: Speak to your current or past officers – they’ll gladly share tips, templates, and stories.
    • Check your Club’s Rules: Each Table and Association may have slight variations – knowing them will give you confidence.
    • Volunteer: Offer to support an officer with a small task. Often, that’s the best way to learn the ropes before taking on the role fully.
    • Look wider: The RTI Officer and Regional Handbooks are available on Tabler.World – a great resource for understanding leadership at every level.

Your turn!

So when the opportunity comes, put your hand up at your next business meeting – your Table will thank you for it.
