Overview
The Order of the PIROT Club is an informal international group consisting of Tablers who served as International Relations Officers during the 2023 term. The group represents a shared generation of tabling experiences and was formed with the intention of maintaining long term connections beyond active office.
The club has no formal founding charter or official documentation. Its continuity is based on active participation and mutual commitment among its members. Communication and coordination take place primarily through a WhatsApp group, which serves as the central platform for exchange.
Purpose and Activities
Members of the Order of the PIROT Club share ideas, best practices, travel plans, and engage in ongoing discussions related to Round Table topics. The group emphasizes continuity, friendship, and the preservation of both professional and personal relationships formed during their time as International Relations Officers.
The 2025 Round Table Eurosail in Italy marked the first time the RT PIROTs participated in the event as a group. International members jointly entered the regatta with their own PIROT Club boat, making their debut in this format.
Among approximately three dozen competing boats, the PIROT crew achieved a memorable second to last place in the regatta. While the sailing result itself was modest, it became part of the group’s shared narrative and humor. Within the informal and social setting of the event, it is widely acknowledged that the PIROTs reached one of the top positions at the bar during the evening celebrations.
To visibly represent the group, a PIROT Club flag was created and flown during the Eurosail, reinforcing the shared identity of the crew.
During the regatta, one of the PIROT crew members, Jonas Mindstrup of Round Table Denmark, was involved in an incident that became part of the club’s internal legend. In a moment often described as pirate like, he narrowly avoided serious injury and nearly sacrificed his right leg in pursuit of the team’s position one second before reaching the safe harbour.
Cultural Significance
The Order of the PIROT Club reflects the balance between commitment and camaraderie that defines international Round Table culture. Through shared experiences, humor, and resilience, the group continues to maintain strong bonds and a distinct identity beyond formal roles and titles.
