One of RTIโs Recurring Community Service Projects.
๐ Background
World Cleanup Day harnesses the power of people around the world to achieve incredible results by working together. The movement began in Estonia in 2008, when 50,000 people came together and cleaned the entire country in just five hours. This powerful example of collective action captured global attention and inspired a diverse, worldwide audience.
In 2020, despite Covid-19 restrictions, World Cleanup Day united over 11 million people in 166 countries, collecting an astounding 280,000 tons of waste.
โป๏ธ Why Is Cleaning Up Important?
We are all frustrated by the waste that litters our streets, parks, and communities. While some waste decays over time, much of it pollutes our environment. During decomposition, waste can:
-
- Produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas
- Create unpleasant odors
- Serve as a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses
- Contribute significantly to climate change
By taking part in cleanup efforts, we join โTHE BIGGER PICTUREโ โ working together to make the world a better, cleaner, and healthier place for everyone.
๐ The Call to Action: Round Table Family
As members of the Round Table Family, we have a responsibility to lead by example. With a network of nearly 100,000 members, we have the power to make a meaningful impact in our local communities.
LET US ACT NOW TO PROTECT THE FUTURE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME!
