Malta, a small, historically rich island nation in the Mediterranean, is known for its strategic location, deep cultural heritage, and close-knit communities. Round Table Malta reflects these qualities, standing out within the Round Table movement as a small yet tightly connected national association. Founded in 1975, with a National Association in 1981, RT Malta prides itself on fostering a strong sense of brotherhood among its members.

Despite its size, RT Malta is highly active in social events, local charity, and international cooperation, all of which are built around fellowship. The association promotes self-improvement, encouraging members to grow personally and professionally while working to improve their communities. Tables within RT Malta maintain a supportive yet competitive dynamic, challenging one another to strive for excellence while offering assistance when needed.

Maltese Tablers are encouraged to Table abroad as much as possible, which has led to members holding several RTI leadership positions over the years. Additionally, RT Malta’s National AGM is considered an ideal introduction for Tablers looking to expand their international experience, as the event is small (<100 pax) and maintains a welcoming atmosphere that makes guests feel at home. With a deep commitment to service, camaraderie, and international engagement, RT Malta continues to punch above its weight in the global Round Table community.

Tables

Due to its small geographic size, the Tables in Malta are not based in different areas, rather, they meet on different days. There are three clubs in Malta, namely:

Interesting Facts

    • The Association has a clubhouse called Dar il-Mejda located in Valletta.
    • Round Table was founded in Malta within a year of the country becoming a Republic. As a result, the original rondel proudly had no king. This sentiment became less important after a couple of decades, and a rondel featuring the king was introduced after RTI was reconstituted.
    • Despite having an age limit of 40, Tablers may extend their membership with the Last Leg Rule (RTMT).
    • A member of RTMT, Joe Zammit Tabona, was interested in becoming President of World Council of Service Clubs (WOCO). To be eligible to do so, Malta needed to be an Association with at least three Tables, but only had one Table at the time. He committed to reaching this target, with Table 2 and Table 3 being chartered in 1980 and 1981, respectively. He become president of Woco in 1983 to 1984.
    • As of 2025, RT Malta will be the only Association to have an RTI President from each of its Tables.
