History of RT Malta (RTMT)

1980: RT2

As the fourth chairman of RT 1 Malta, Joseph Zammit Tabona introducted the idea for a second Maltese Table.

19th April โ€” Round Table Malta 2 Chartered with Martin Said being its first chairman. Joe ZT delivered the following speech at the Charter Banquet:

โ€œIt seems that only a few days have passed by since the foundation, but three months of hectic preparation for this Charter let time fly. 17 founder members and 8 friends joined. Our association is now a โ€˜coolโ€™ figure of 62, with two Honorary Members. I can imagine that through joint efforts soon a third Table will be founded. Here in Malta there is enough space and interest which will help the RT Movement and our banner will flutter for years and years!โ€

1981: RT3, National Association

28th February โ€” Round Table Malta 3 Chartered. This allowed RT Malta to be recognised as a National Association as a member of WOCO. Its first Chairman was Eric Fenech Pace. At the charter ceremony, again Joe Tabona took the chair to congratulate the candidates of RT 3:

โ€œIt is very difficult to know what to say on such an occasion as this. Most important is the fact that RT stands unchanged. Today is a milestone as with this Charter we fulfil the regulations to become members of WOCO. Therefore we can co-rule on a worldwide stage.โ€
