Club Logo Symbolism
Understanding the RT6 Mons rondel requires knowledge of mythology and historical facts. The basis of the rondel is derived from the RT Belgium logo, as indicated by the national colors on the border. This is an indirect reference to the Duke of Burgundy, Philip the Good (Philippe III), and the chain and pendant of the Order of the Golden Fleece, which he founded.
When establishing the first clubs, Round Table Belgium adopted the English rondel as a base, but replaced the Tudor rose at the center with the hanging ram symbol of the Order of the Golden Fleece. RT6 Mons, however, replaced the golden ram pendant and King Arthur with local symbols.
The most characteristic event of Mons is the “Ducasse de Mons” or simply the Doudou Festival, held annually on the 57th day after Easter. As part of the festival, a UNESCO World Heritage event called the “Lumeçon” reenacts the battle between Saint George and the dragon – a symbolic play between good and evil. The performance depicts the legend of how the warrior George became the dragon-slaying hero and savior of 15,000 people, earning the title of patron saint of warriors, knights, and peasants.
Therefore, the RT6 Mons rondel prominently features symbols unique to the city: Saint George with a spear and the dragon figure, reflecting the local heritage and the legendary fight between good and evil.
