The history of Round Table Great Britain & Ireland (RTBI) is the history of Round Table International itself. As the birthplace of the movement, RTBI was home to the first Tablers, the first club, and the first national committee, laying the foundation for what has become a global network of fellowship, service, and leadership. Today, RTBI continues to thrive, representing clubs across the United Kingdom—England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland—as well as the Republic of Ireland.

Today, as a large and influential association within Round Table International, RTBI is recognised for its deep-rooted traditions, strong leadership structures, and a enormous commitment to both local and international service projects. With a proud history dating back to 1927, it has consistently evolved to remain relevant in a changing world while upholding the core values of fellowship, service, and self-improvement.

RTBI blends tradition with innovation. The association fosters a strong network of local Tables, each actively engaged in charitable initiatives, social activities, and leadership development. RTBI also plays a key role on the international stage, having contributed significantly to the growth and governance of Round Table International over the decades.

History

    • In 1928, the General Council of Round Table Britain (RTB) expanded into Ireland, leading to the formation of Round Table Britain and Ireland (RTBI) on May 25, 1928.
    • By the first National Association of Round Tables conference, held April 2–4, 1929, the 16 existing tables had already been divided into three districts.
    • Marchesi served as secretary until 1932 and did not assume the presidency until 1935, when RTBI had grown to 100 tables.
