Orléans is a historic city in north-central France, located on the Loire River about 130 km south of Paris. Best known for its association with Joan of Arc, who lifted the English siege of the city in 1429 during the Hundred Years’ War, Orléans has long been an important political, religious, and commercial centre. Today it combines a well-preserved historic core, including the Cathédrale Sainte-Croix, with a modern urban role as the capital of the Loiret department and a key city of the Centre-Val de Loire region.
